AKC Little Miss Cocoa

Little Miss Cocoa was our second miniature schnauzer.  She came to us in November of 2014 as a puppy from Hilltop Schnauzers in Ohio.  Cocoa is a liver parti schnauzer.  At 10lbs, she is considered toy size.  She has a beautiful, soft super coat.  She has a playful, carefree personality.
Cocoa gave us two beautiful litters of puppies while she was with us here at Russell Homestead.   12 days after whelping her second litter, she developed a high fever.  We rushed her to our vet.  Through a series of tests, we discovered that she had bladder stones and was in need of immediate surgery.  We had many heavy decisions to make quickly for both Cocoa and the puppies.  We are grateful to our vet for his compassionate care and advice through the situation.  We decided it was best for our family and for Cocoa to have our vet perform the surgery and rehome Cocoa to a pet home where they can focus on her and her needs.  We did not take this decision lightly or without tears.
To those of you who have one of Cocoa’s lovely puppies in your home, we want you to know that we were not aware Cocoa had this problem when we chose to breed her.  Our vet said there is no proven genetic link with bladder stones.  However, he felt there could possibly be a genetic component.  So, it is unlikely that your precious puppy will develop bladder stones, but we felt you needed to be aware of what happened.
