Cocoa gave birth to 5 puppies on May 25, 2016. She had a smooth, easy delivery. We are very excited about this unique litter of AKC miniature schnauzers. Cooca, the dam of the litter is a 10lb liver parti miniature schnauzer. The sire of the litter is Stryker - a 14lb black and white parti schnauzer from Kinsey's Kritters. Strkyer carries the liver gene, even though he is black, which resulted in 3 of our 5 puppies being chocolate colored. The puppies are all gaining weight nicely. We weigh them 2-3 times a day to ensure they are thriving. Weighing puppies is one of the best way to detect any problems as early as possible. They went to the vet on Friday, May 27, 2016, to have their tails docked and their dew claws removed. Below are the individual puppies in birth order. Click on their names to see their individual pages. Jake - AKC Liver Parti MaleJake was the firstborn of the litter, and he is only the male. He was 6 oz at birth. Only his sister, Misty, matched his size. At birth, when he was still wet, we thought he was black and white. As he dried, we realized he is a dark chocolate color instead of black. Out of the litter, he has the most white on his back. Violet - AKC Black & White Parti FemaleViolet, the second born of the litter, is black and white. She was 5 oz at birth. Of the two black and white parti females, she has the least amount of white. Holly - AKC Liver Pepper Parti FemaleThird to be born was Holly. Holly was the only puppy who was obviously brown at birth. She weighed 5 oz. She is a lighter chocolate color than Jake and Misty. She also has a bit of a dark stripe down her back. Strawberry - AKC Black & White Parti FemaleStrawberry was fourth in the birth order. She is black and white like her sister Violet, but Strawberry has more white. She has small spot of white on her back that we call her "strawberry" marking. She was 5 oz at birth. Misty - AKC Liver Parti FemaleThe last to be born was Misty. According to the ultrasound, our vet said that there are at least four puppies. The vet felt there could be more, and there was one more - Misty. Misty was 6 oz at birth. Like her brother Jake, we thought she was black and white birth, but she is a dark chocolate color. Her markings are very similar to Strawberry's. Below are some pictures from our vet visit yesterday. Below is Cocoa with her puppies in our whelping box She is an excellent mother! There is also a picture of Misty and Strawberry looking almost like twins, except Misty is brown and Strawberry is black. We are excited to announce that Cocoa is expecting a litter of miniature schnauzer puppies in the end of May 2016! She had an ultrasound, and our vet says that everything looks wonderful so far! She has had a healthy, uneventful pregnancy thus far.
For those of you on our waiting list, you should have received an email from us already. (If you didn't receive the email, contact me immediately.) The sire of the puppies is Stryker - a 14lb black and white miniature schnauzer from Kinsey's Kritters. Since Stryker carries the liver color gene, we are hoping for some liver and white puppies. We are also guessing that Cocoa may have black and/or black and white puppies. The puppies will likely be on the smaller side of miniature schnauzers. Some may fall into the toy range (under 12lbs). We are very eager to see Cocoa's first litter of puppies! To those on my blog follow list, you will not receive any more emails about Cocoa's litter. I do not notify my blog followers of these posts because typically they are of interest mainly to those who are purchasing puppies. Thanks! |
