Our puppies are one week old! They all doubled their birth weight at 7 days, which is excellent. They are now all over a pound. Their eyes and ears are still closed, but should open in the next few days. They still spend most of their time eating and sleeping. Jolly spends almost every minute with them, but has started to venture away for a few moments now and then. However, if Cocoa or one of the children ventures anywhere near the whelping box, she rushes over to make sure her babies are protected. Below are a few photos of them sleeping; they sleep in some of the strangest positions! Newborn puppies also twitch a lot in their sleep. Notice on the photos that they now have docked tails. I also attempted to photograph the white markings on Blaze and Bess. Pete and Dolly have very little white. Below are the best pictures I could get of squirmy puppies.
